7th June, 2014 – Converging upon Germany, Sufi students from across the country gathered in Schadowplatz, Dusseldorf, raising the banner of equity for the people of faith. Determined to be the voice of justice and fairness, they demonstrated in their hundreds, chanting and sounding their sadness and their tireless fight to preserve the sanctity of their faith.
Following demonstrations in Dallas, London, Los Angeles, New York and Washington, DC; Roberto Cavalli’s relentless reticence in misappropriating the sacred Sufi emblem has continued to bring torment and sadness to the students of MTO Shahmaghsoudi.
These peaceful demonstrations are aimed at raising awareness of Cavalli’s indifferent and prejudicial use of a trademarked sacred Sufi emblem; protecting it from mediocrity and commercialisation, from being equated to a “snake bite” and “a sign of seduction and lust” – the very antithesis of its true meaning.
Organised by the #TakeOffJustLogo campaign and supported by Sufi Rights, students are not calling for censorship, but simply attempting to protect the sanctity of their faith.
