Washington Redskins’ Federal Trademarks Cancelled – Via http://NPR.org The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office CANCEL’s American Football’s teams trademark because it disparages American Indians!! This was a rightful and appropriate decision. American Football is a favorite pastime for us Americans with many wonderful fans. But even true die-hard fans would understand that a group should not feel disparaged, demoralized and belittled for the sake of a corporations’ profit. Why should any group suffer from feeling disrespected at the misuse of a name or symbol for the sake of corporations’ financial gain? So how about us? What about half a million Sufi students in the U.S. and across the world whose faith has been intentionally insulted and degraded by Roberto Cavalli’s misappropriation of our TRADEMARKED religious emblem? How about the disparagement and harm the Just Cavalli logo has caused to our group? An entire professional football team’s trademark was cancelled because American Indians felt the image disrespected them. “Federal Trademark law does NOT permit registration of trademark that may disparage individuals or groups or brings them into contempt or dispute.” It is for this reason that it is so important that we continue to voice our disapproval, pain and anguish at Roberto Cavalli’s misuse of our trademarked sacred symbol. It is time the Just Cavalli logo is immediately removed from Roberto Cavalli’s fashion line!
